Fungus gnats live for a maximum of one week, laying up to 200 eggs during this time preferably in fresh compost or top soil. The larvae that hatch from the eggs grow into gnats at 20 °C within three weeks. The short development time and the explosion in numbers quickly leads to infestation. To ensure this does not happen, fungus gnats must be routinely controlled.
Nemycel contains Steinernema feltiae nematodes. These infect fungus gnats from the second larva stage (= day 5 following egg laying). More nematodes can multiply depending on the age and size of the larvae. This protects the crop right through to the harvest. Compared to Dimilin, the use of nemycel® leads to higher yields.
Apply 2 million per m². Apply the nematodes using the watering equipment using 1 litre of water per m². After spreading, you should immediately see fungus gnat larvae serving as propagation hosts. If using phase III compost, apply with the last watering of the day or on day 10-15 following covering. nemycel® can be stored in a refrigerated storage room at 2-8 °C for at least 6 weeks without affecting quality.
